How To Use SEMrush To Supercharge Your Search Results

If you have found this post, the chances are you have already heard of SEMrush.

If (like I had), you have looked at SEMrush but done nothing with it, you have come to the right place! In this post, How To Use SEMrush To Supercharge Your Search Results, it is my aim to get you on track to learning the tools without getting overwhelmed.

This site includes some affiliate links – if you buy through my link I may get paid a commission but the price remains the same for you. Thank you for your support.

First of all let’s look at:

What is SEMrush?

SEMrush is an ‘all-in-one marketing tool kit’ – a collection of tools to help you to maximize your online search results (and consequently your revenue), analyze what your competitors are up to, and enable you to identify the opportunities you are missing out on.

SEMrush started back in 2008 with two tools and a small group of SEO and IT specialists on a mission ‘to make online competition fair and transparent with equal opportunities for everyone’. Today they have more than 6 million subscribers and a selection of 48 tools!

Who is SEMrush for?

SEMrush has tools for everyone. If you are a relatively new blogger, I would recommend that you start out with the SEO tools and Content Tools first, rather than try to dive into everything as it would be easy to become overwhelmed.

SEO Tools

  • Keyword Research tools including Keyword Magic Tool and Keyword Gap Tool (by analyzing your competitors keywords you can find which ones you are missing.)
  • On-page SEO tools including a Site Audit showing you how to fix website issues and On Page SEO checker which produces ideas to improve specific page rankings
  • Local SEO tools including Listing Management to automatically have your website listed in the most authoritative directories and Position Tracking to track where your local competitors are appearing in the search.
  • Rank Tracking tools including Position Tracking to monitor your campaign progress on a daily basis and Sensor which detects changes to the Google algorithm.
  • Link Building tools – this finds new opportunities and even supplies the contact details of the websites and keeps you up to date with the progress of your campaign. (Not sure what link building is? Check it out here.)
  • SEO Analysis Competitive Analysis tools including Backlink Analytics (find out who is linking to your competitors but not you) and Organic Research which helps you to find your competitors top organic search keywords

There is an excellent, free Keyword Research Course to help you on your way!

Final thoughts

Originally I thought SEMrush was just a keyword research tool but it is infinitely more. Many of the tools included  will help you with the overall structure and readability of your blog posts as well as ensuring you have a competitive edge. Check out the Semrush 2020 Improvements Roundup to learn more. Have you tried SEMrush or are you already a devotee? If so, I would love to hear about it in the comments.

  1. When I first meet with SEMRush, I was overwhelmed with all the features, charts, data, etc. Because I was a beginner, I didn’t purchase this SEO tool. I just could see myself using it at that moment. In other words, I was looking for something less complicated and I found it in Jaaxy keyword tool.

However, now, when my site has grown, and I understand SEO much better then I used to a few years ago, I can see myself using SEMRush. I would definitely want to supercharge my results. Thanks for sharing this post! May I suggest a video tutorial to demonstrate how to use this SEO tool? Thanks again!

  2. I love SEM rush it has everything you need in order to outrank your competitors and to better understand what your audience is searching for. But as a beginner I found it a bit overwhelming. There is a learning curve, but once you learned all the features it will become your tool #1

    • Hi Delyana

It’s interesting that you should say that, as I ignored it for quite a long time because there is so much to it. Glad you are finding it helpful now.

      Kind regards,
